PiLot Autonomous Rover

Practical robotics for real farms — GPS navigation, live telemetry, and obstacle avoidance tested in the field.

Project Overview

Why PiLot?

PiLot was created to solve real problems faced by farmers: tedious fieldwork, lack of timely data, and the need for affordable automation. Every design choice was made with simplicity, reliability, and actual farm use in mind.

How It Works in the Field

The rover is programmed with GPS routes and can be sent out to collect data or perform tasks. It uses sensors to avoid obstacles and streams live video and sensor readings to a dashboard you can access from your phone or laptop.

What Makes It Different

  • Designed and tested on real farmland, not just simulations
  • Simple controls and clear dashboard for non-technical users
  • Modular hardware - easy to repair and upgrade
  • Live data and video streaming for instant feedback
  • Built with open-source tools and scalable cloud services

Impact

PiLot helps farmers save time, reduce manual effort, and make better decisions with real data. The project is about bringing technology out of the classroom and into the paddock, where it can make a genuine difference.
